Penguin our 9 wk old Amerucana / Black rock cross started to act weird since last week. Everytime we pick him up or he does some thing like trying to roost, he puts his head down and moves his head back and forth under his breast. Sometimes he gets so absorbed in it he walks backward and loses his ability to walk straight. He started to overlap his feet while walking I worry there is a nuerological problem or a leg problem. Before this started to happen he had perfect balence and had no trouble walking or roosting. Please help!!!!

Try posting about it here as I think you might get better/quicker responses: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

I know one of our girls did something like this for a few days about a year ago, but when I inquired about it with a poultry vet, I was told it sounded like a partially impacted crop and that this was how they usually went about trying to "loosen it up" on their own. We were advised to keep an eye on them, add some apple cider vinegar to their water and if they stopped in a day or so, no worries. If they kept doing it or stopped eating/pooping, bring them in.
