Where is everyone getting those thin looking 90 degree elbows? I've looked at both the big box home improvement stores, and the elbows there (3" ones look huge). Will my girls really be able to use it? Or do I need to cut the flange off one side? It just looks really big to me.

3 inches does not sound too big.
Do you have chicks right now?

Yeah. Its not the overall hole dimension size of the 90 degree elbow. It's the length of the 90 degree elbow from flange to flange, if that makes sense. It looks too long for even a full-size chicken to be able to stick their head and neck in to get feed.

Can you take a pic or a screen shot of the product you are talking about?

Heres a link to what I got at lowes.

After I drilled the hole to make it fit, it seems like it is a very long way for them to be able to reach in and get the food. I am thinking about cutting the flange off one side to cut down the overall length to make it easier. I even measured up 4.5 inches on the lowes bucket, and it almost reaches the bottom.

We had to cut the flange when we made feeders like this, otherwise it seemed too deep. My only complaint is that I usually have to shake feeder once a day to refill the elbow- the crumbles must be too light to refill themselves.
