9wk old chick acting wierd

Penguin our 9 wk old Amerucana / Black rock cross started to act weird since last week. Everytime we pick him up or he does some thing like trying to roost, he puts his head down and moves his head back and forth under his breast. Sometimes he gets so absorbed in it he walks backward and loses his ability to walk straight. He started to overlap his feet while walking I worry there is a nuerological problem or a leg problem. Before this started to happen he had perfect balence and had no trouble walking or roosting. Please help!!!!

Look up some information on wry neck/crook neck. Get some PolyVisol baby vitamins, vitamin e capsules, and selenium- that is the recommended treatment. Mareks Disease would be another possibility.

Hi my guess is this is the beginning of wry neck. I just got done nursing my own back to health after having this only to. have another come down with it yesterday. If you have Any QUESTIONS AT ALL please feel free to pm me and I'll help in any way I can. Basically your going to want to give human vitamin E capsules and selenium in small amounts is very important for the absorbtion of the vitamin E in large amounts it is toxic however its a very important part of this treatment. along with that you will want to give liquid children's vitamin called polyvisol make sure it is without iron. Along with these things your going to want to give a vitamin B. You can also add Bayer low dose children's aspirin. you have a very good chance at recovery as your bird is not yet in full blown wry neck. This is the beginning. Have patients and you're bird should be back to normal before you know it.I wish you the best! God bless
