a baby was born!

Yeah!

We only have one. He/She hatched early this morning/late last night. I'm trying not to panic, but he does not seem interested in food or water. I know the yoke will sustain him (like they do when they are send in the mail)...but when should I really become concerne?

Try sprinkling the food crumbs in front of him to see if it grabs his attention and dip his beak in the water so he knows it's there. It may take 24 hours or so before he feels like messing with it though. They can go up to 72 hours living on the yolk sac, so don't worry yet. Congrats! I had 8 hatch over the weekend.

Have you tried 'teaching' her how to eat-- pecking with your finger, etc?

oh no...more are on the way. For now his stand-in sibling is a Christmas ornament! (made of cotton) He has his very on "Frosty the Cottonball Man"

Ok...This is our newest addition:

He's still in the 'bator with "Frosty"..his stand-in sibling

Here he is being mothered by my 9 year old daughter. Life is good for only children! (the bird...not my daughter)
