Hi All,
Totally new to the back yard farm scene, but quickly realized that you all have a huge amount of great information! I've answered some questions below and hope I can pick your brains until I know enough to help someone else out!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Completely new - hoping to get our first meat chickens in the next month to be followed by a few egg layers, maybe a breeding pair of turkeys...then maybe some goats (not all this year, of course!)
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I hear chickens are a gateway animal, so I'm afraid (LOL). We don't have any right now, but hoping to soon.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Looking at Cornish X for our meat and Australorps for our eggs. Thinking eventually maybe Bourbon Reds or another Heritage breed when we're ready for our turkeys.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Lots of time wandering the internet. These are some of the best forums I've seen with some of the most varied information and people who don't flame each other on a regular basis for differences of opinion. Looks like a great community!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
When I'm not working, I'm gardening, brewing beer, and training dogs in obedience and agility.
