Last night after coming home from church we decided we would get the chicks into the coop for the night because there had been signs of a snake snooping around. Run is mostly coon proof, but a small snake could squeeze in. Well, they don't exactly go into the coop "on demand" just yet. I'm still in my long skirt and dh is in his suit. The sun is going down quickly, so we are losing light. We tried everything we could to get the chicks in the coop, mostly him scaring the towards me and me trying to catch them while on my hands and knees (the run is only 2 ft tall). After basically no success and 15 minutes of trying, my 18 month old dd comes out of the house (thanks to her older brothers). She takes matters into her own hand by walking hunched over right into the run and chasing them. It worked! They ran from her and straight toward me! After 30 minutes we finally caught all 9 of them one at a time and dropped them into the already closed coop. We were exhausted but couldn't stop laughing at the whole thing. Next time maybe we'll at least be smart enough to change into casual clothes.
