Tonight when I started to put my flock to "bed" one of my hens just refused to go in the coop. I gently reached down to pick her up and she squatted and did a little "dance" (like running in place) What does that mean?

Hi
We have a rather timid chicken who was attacked by a dog and Is rather wary of anyone else than me and our family. She even has her moments with us. When she becomes afraid she does exactly what your hen did. I just stroke her back and tell her it is ok. Your hen might just be timid. I wouldn't be worried. I hope this helps :)

It is squatting. It thinks you are the rooster. They do that for the rooster to tell him they accept him and want to mate.

Yep... she is *egg squatting*, which is normal for the girls who are mature enough to lay eggs and to daydream about those sexy roos. Nothing to worry about...squatting makes it easy to pick those gals up, too!
