Excited to join BYC and want to share that one of the wishes of many members in New Hampshire is now in our hands. That wish, the elimination of the state requirement to purchase a minimum of 12 chicks, is now a bill in the New Hampshire Legislature. That bill, HB 1231 (easily searchable - ask for help if you need it) is set for a public hearing on January 26th at 2:00 PM in room 302 of the legislative office building in Concord. This bill specifically repeals NH RSA 437:15 which mandates that young chicks be sold in quantities of no less than 12.

Support for this bill is needed. If you are able to attend the public hearing or are willing to write to your state legislators (and members on the committee considering this bill) please let me know and I am happy to get you directions to the hearing and/or provide you resources for contacting your state representatives.

Please feel to contact me via BYC or through my personal email: [email protected]

Hope this helps a lot of fellow New Hampshire 'Chickeneers'

from Twentynine Palms in the California high desert! And good luck getting this bill passed. What a ridiculous law.

Awesome that they are getting rid of that.

And if you see my good friend Mitt Romney up there, say HI for me.

I assume that this bill was begun because shipping only a few chicks increases the mortality rate. There are so many ways now to ship chicks now so that they do not succumb to the cold that I think that this law is obsolete. Interesting how the big hatcheries still require you to buy 25 chicks at a time. Is it safety or profit? Good luck on this one! Oh, and by the way,
