A delicate question about male dogs

Sounds like our house!

I have an unneutered male lab. His is SOOO much better behaved and better smelling than our females oddly enough. (His picture is posted on the dog thread). He was very easy to train. I really think the male behaviors is a lot to do with training too. If he mounted our one female while in the house, he got yelled at and pushed off. He can do it outside, but rarely shows an interest. He's never marked anything. In fact, he doesn't lift his leg to pee and he's almost 1 1/2. I've always prefered females, but he's starting to sway me.

We've never bred our dogs, but got them from rescues. The poodle was neutered at 4 years old and his...um...change purse was large. 2 years later, he looks like he's always been neutered, no dangles at all.

The labrador was neutered at 2 years old and same thing. The sac was large and depressed, but now a year later, you can't even tell he wasn't neutered earlier.

Another option, works especially well for large breeds who need those hormones for growing properly, they can have a vasectomy. When we picked up our 5 month old Maremma pup last month, we found out this is what they do, so they will grow up correctly. So he still has his "boys" with all the hormones, but can't produce any "heirs!"
