Ok I have been reading on cochins I have 5 silver laced girls - everything I have read said they dont lay very many eggs a week and they are not very hardy birds - does anyone have themthat might be able to tell me from personal exp. about them??

also I can not find anything about Black Dutch Bantams I have one hen and a rooster of this breed. Does anyone have them in thier flock? what color eggs do they lay and are they hardy little birds able to deal with winters? do the roosters stay calm and easy to handle?

I have light brahmas they seem to be very hardy and big bodied birds, so they should be able to deal with winter right? also what color eggs do they give ?
Egg color is not a major factor to us I just thought it would be cool to know that when they do start laying which egg came from which breed.

thanks for you help

Do you mean Silver Laced Wyandottes or Cochins? Wyandottes are very hardy and my three are excellent layers. I get five to six eggs per weeks from them, each.
Here is a Brahma egg:

Wow what a good sized egg-when I ordered my girls from Privett Hatchery I asked for cochins - I read the paperwork that came with them it said cochins - man I hope they are right LOL. I am going to be posting some pictures later today so hopefully you will be able to tell me if they sent the breeds I asked for. I saw some pictures of cochins and mine dont look like thiers - the bodies were alot more compact and short looking mine are more taller and the bodies are alittle longer, dont think they are mutts.
Why is it the longer I have my chickens the more questions I have LOL
Thanks for all your help.
