So can adults show chickens? I totally thought that was done with after 4-H!

and if i can how would I get into it? I'd want a mentor and I'm in georgia ...

are they run like horse shows? do you accumulate points or individual awards...

I could google but i feel like BYC is the better way to go.

I'm pretty sure it's called "opened class" just like it is for rabbits and horses when showing when you're too old for 4h

I've never showed chickens though but if it was me, I'd start looking for local fairs that are being held and see if theres any sign up sheets needed to take your chickens, or if you can jus tbring them in the day of and show them

I know in rabbits you can just take them the day of show them and take them home if you'd like but if you want to keep them over if the show is more htan one day you can order cages days before the shows.

So i assume chickens are the same way. I know that most shows your chickens need to have vaccines and what not or be NPIP tested.

Go to the APA or ABA website and look for scheduled shows, or subscribe to Poultry Press where virtually all sanctioned shows are advertised; entries are usually due at least a week in advance, sometimes longer.

Some, but not all shows have a separate Youth Show as well as open. Most, but not all have Showmanship.

Find and join a local poultry club, and search for a montor among the members--ideally someone who raises the breed you are interested in, but even if not, you can learn alot from someone who has been showing for awhile.

Oh yes, adults can and do show their chickens! There is SO much more to it than 4-H, some chicken exhibitors get really serious about it (guilty as charged.)

I looked on the American Bantam Association website for sanctioned shows in GA, and found these:

You can collected points/stars with the ABA and the APA (American Poultry Association), each has their own system (you must be a member though.)

As well, there are breed clubs for most breeds of poultry, which have their own awards/points systems to work towards.

Chicken shows are totally different than horse shows, with the nice part being all the work is done ahead of time, the day of the show you coop your nice clean bird into a cage and then you're done until after judging.

Yep the old folk show too.

Here is the australian champion and the owner.

Just like horses can go as far as the olympics, some people take poltry that serious and the shows can get very big especially in england . Thier dedication and passion has improved the egg layers and show birds.
