I am new to raising ducks, i have 3 pekings and 2 rouens, 2 males and 3 females, is that enough females? I handled them alot when they were ducklings, now that their a couple months old, i can't get close to them, what can i do? I have a fenced in area where their house is and kept them in there for a couple of weeks (until all the grass was gone) now they are free ranging but i keep the gate opened so they can get in their kiddie pool, the problem is, it's such a muddy mess now with all the grass gone, would it help to move the pool ( i change the water daily) to a grassy area every day. Thank you so much for the help.

Um ducks are gross...lol. I love em to death but they are gross. Thats the first lesson.
We always handle ours a lot as babies and they always end up not wanting to be held as they get older, like yours. I think they are just not the "pets" that chickens are? But we sure love having them around even if we have to corner them to hold em.

It is recommended to have 3 - 4 ducks per drake...do not be surprised if you have some fighting between the drakes or the females being over bred.

Ducks are not lap pets, especially in a group. They have each other and do not need us for companionship. Do not take it personally.

there are those exceptions of course but as a general rule, ducks do not like being held.
