I am not sure what is going on with these birds but WOW! (1 drake, 6 ducks and a pair of geese) Everyone is picking on everyone. The ducks are loud and arguing nonstop, the drake is running off my female goose. My male goose, well he runs the ENTIRE show so he tries to keep order. I think he will be moving in the house with me pretty soon, he is fed up with everyone like me. Nobody acknowledges I am even around other than Rusty, my male goose, and I think he goes by me to get away from all the crabby gals. It is nonstop LOUD quacking and bickering.

Is this breeding season?

Thanks
Renee

I believe it's the beginning of mating season... I have 4 ducks and a drake. The drake grew a new curly feather and promptly had to be put in drake jail. And my girls are bickering with one another too! Gotta love the duck life 🤣🤣🤣

I honestly feel sorry for my drake...he has to listen to them all day/night AND just gets harassed nonstop. People worry about the ducks...pppffftttt my drake is who I am worried about. Poor guy, those ducks are CRAZY!

Yes, it sounds like it! Waterfowl frequently exhibit all of this territorial and mating behavior throughout the breeding season. Their natural courtship and dominance displays include the loud quacking, the ongoing arguments, and even the drake pursuing your female goose. While females can be more selective (or simply tired of the chaos), males frequently become a little overzealous in their pursuit of a mate.

Yep. The past month or so, I’ve had quite a few dominance fights between boys & broody fights between girls. One girl is out of the drama and just wants to free range. She honkyonkyonks her head off and runs around complaining that no one’s following her.

My geese have been bickering a bit between each other too but are otherwise gems.

I have separated my boys a few times due to their fights being long-lasting. Otherwise, as long as there’s no injuries or girl v boy fighting, I just leave them be to fight about.. whatever it is they’re fighting about

Sounds pretty normal to me. My own bad boys are squabbly squabbly and even my first rescued and raised has started biting me again. It happens every year.

We are just getting into above freezing temps and sunshine finally! I think a foot of snow melted yesterday too. Have not seen an egg since November. Been a LONG winter. Even with sunshine they find something to complain about. I am scared to put their kiddie pools out, I don't want anyone to get hurt.

This is my first spring with them so their personalities are shining right now. Silly things....
