A-Frame Coop, roosting question

Ok, I will do that...
Sorry, they are sleeping between the roost on the pine shavings, the pine shavings are a couple inches deep covering the whole floor leaving the two roost visible. Just put them in yesterday afternoon, they are eating and drinking good , scratching and foraging in the grass. Have already started laying in the nesting boxes. Have plenty of water and laying pellets, even had some raw cabbage this afternoon and small amount of scratch. They seem content.

My reason for truly asking is for there health, roosting on a roosting pole versus roosting on the pine shavings, knowing that they poop in their sleep and staying in it till dawn. I am going to build something larger attach this A-Frame as a run, but for the time being I know they are chickens but want to keep healthy chickens.

If the poops stick to their feathers it could be a health issue.

What breed are they?

It should not make much difference whether they sleep in the pine shavings or on the roost, unless they literally have poop stuck to their feathers in the morning. You can check that by looking at their back ends at any point during the day: clean fluffy feathers are fine, matted poopy feathers are a problem.

They are going to be pretty close to the poop in any case, because of how close the roosts are to the board that holds the pine shavings. If it was taller you could raise the roosts so they could sleep further above where the poop collects, but I don't think you have enough height to do that in this size of coop.

They are game, medium size, went out and checked on them tonight, they have plenty of room and would be several inches above the bedding with plenty of head room. It's just not what they are preferring right now on their second night in their new home. They are a little bigger than Bantams, they are small game hens, but couldn't say they are American etc.

I'd just smooth off those roosts and give them time.
Where did you get these birds, maybe they didn't use roosts there either?
