Hi all! Husband and I are building our 4x8 coop right now and we haven't decided on a roof yet. I'm thinking an a-frame roof, but wanted to see what others are doing to ventilation. How small is too small? How big is too big?

Thanks!

An A-frame is a building style. Like this:

Do you mean a gable style roof?
I have an offset gable style roof. The best thing to do is to build large overhangs on the gable end and install gable vents. If the overhang is large enough, you never have to worry about snow or rain driving in.
How tall is your coop?
The key to ventilation is that during the winter months, no draft blows though the coop so strongly that it can open feathers. I don't think you can have "too much" ventilation. There are many chicken keepers that don't offer coops and the chickens sleep in trees.
The easiest place to put ventilation in a gable style roof is between the rafters, under the eaves with a corresponding ridge and/or gable vents. that is what I have. You can just see the light coming in over the tops of the walls between the rafters and can see the roof overhang through the gable vent. There is also a ridge vent.
I also have top hinged windows that are open around the roosts during the heat of summer.
