My chickens don't seem to get this "don't lay during short days" thing.

The new pullets are coming online and some of the 17-month old hens are starting up after molting so I had a full dozen today!

Those are very pretty eggs! Congratulations on a full dozen!

I got 3....pooped on white eggs from my 2 year olds today. I know who the dirty pooper is and it's not them. It's Robin a 5 year old going through a really hard sad molt who thinks the best place to be is in THAT nest box.

I sympathize. My chicks are sleeping in the nests and I'm having trouble getting them blocked at night. So some days I have a full lineup of poopy eggs.

:hugsLittle poopy dinosaurs.

What breed is giving you those pretty dark browns eggs?

French Cuckoo Marans from Ideal.

They're not breeder-dark, but to the best of my understanding they're in-range for the SOP.

Sorry had to run to work earlier....

I think your eggs are beautiful. Maybe someday I will have to get some Marans in my flock....
