My 13 yo daughter said "ew!" And we asked what was up. She said 2 chickens were mating. I went to look and they were all lined up on the back step railing where they have decided to take up roosting. (2nd night ina row we have to to carry them to the coop) She said the roo was on top of one of the hens. I asked which one, and she said the white one. (Deleware - we have 2, 1 roo and 1 hen). So I asked which white one and she tells me. I kind of giggled and said that is the hen. She said ew! That hen was trying to mate w the other hen? I said no, they were probably trying to figure out their sleeping positions since they obviously werent headed back home! Lol! (It was dusk)
She still didnt get it. But our 3 babies, when they were in my lap the other day, it was also dusk and one (a pullet) kept trying to crawl under one of the others. And go to sleep! Anyway - I thought it was cute. She thought they were mating. Boy will she be surprised when mating actually does occur!
