I've been building my coop with materials on hand as much as I can. I have a glass storm door in a shed that is in good condition. The coop is 6' by 8' and the door would be used for me to access the coop for cleaning, etc. I may need to rework the door's handle to make it more secure/lockable.

Is this a safe idea? the door's frame would be secured to 2x4's. It would let a lot of light into the coop as it will be south facing and as of now there are no other windows built into the coop. Or would this be to encouraging for snooping animals?

If its too much light/ view for outside animals, etc. I have thought about tinting the bottom half of the door.

Would love to hear some thoughts and opinions on this option. Otherwise I will need to build a solid wood door and put hinges on it.

I would use it.

Consider your ventilation. A glass door facing south is going to have a lot of heat gain in the summer.

I was wondering this too, we were given one years ago and it was too big for us to use. It seems super big though but it's FREE lol, if it doesn't work then I'm building a plywood door

Well, I went ahead and installed it. Definitely was a pain as the recycled structure I am building with wasn't square at all. It's a tight fit, but it works. Pic below...

As for ventilation, I do have two 8" x 16" ventilation holes each side (east and west) near the top of the coop that will be covered with a strong screen. If that isn't enough, I can easily add another one on each side or put two on the north side, although those would be just above where they roost and I'm concerned about draft issues there.
