I have a growout pen for all the young birds here, and in that pen I have 6 rhode island red chicks. While I was out feeding this morning one of them jumped my leg and kept doing it. Now none of them are any older than 3 months old and none of them have crowed so I didn't know if I had any roosters in there or not. Once this little one jumped me I decided to pick it up and check it's neck feathers and I
have decided that it has to be a rooster that hasn't crowed yet!
Now I am wondering is it normal that one so young could be so protective? I just never heard of any rooster doing this at such a young age! He sure seems to be staking his claim already!

mine started at 5 weeks attacking me and my husband.... has not crowed yet.
we had a discussion this roo and I, and he has not done it for weeks now... who knows what the future holds.

The RIR's that I hatched from sunshinesilkies are beautiful, but boy are they spunky to say the least. The only thing they attack is the feeder though - I'm convinced they are pigs not chickens!

Sunshinesilkies warned me ahead of time though.

Out of 17, I think 3/4 of them are roos, so a lot of them will be sold off. Mine are almost 3 mos old and haven't tried to crow either.

I heard that rhode island roosters could be tuff but golly why did this one start so soon?

So how are you girl?

Well, just like my title says under my name, I'm definitely "Overrun with Chickens"! Practically everything that I hatched out has turned out to be roos. So, the RIR's that I mentioned are gonna need to go soon. I posted a for sale ad here on BYC for them. I have other more ornamental type roos that'll need to go eventually, but for now they are staying. It's been SOOOOOO incredibly busy here at the law ofc, I just can't express that enough. Wheww! Job security I suppose though, so that's a good thing. Also, I'm amazed at how hot it's been here in NC already too.

On a side note, a month ago my BIL died unexpectedly of a HA. We could only afford one airplane ticket for my hubby to go & when he came back he said he wanted to start going to church. I was so happy! I always wanted to go, but I wanted the whole family to go. So, we've been going mostly on Sunday mornings, but sometimes on Wed nights too.

How you been Deb???

Reds tend to be aggressive. They have Game in their background.
