a hen which is a good layer and a good broody

A sex link chicken just means that they have been bred to display certain sex-linked traits as chicks so it is easy to tell the males from females.

As far as layers that go broody I do agree with the fact that if you get a true layer breed like a Leghorn you will probably not get a broody as well unless you are extremely lucky. I have heard that there are hens that can be good at both like a few others have said, the Buff Orpington and the Wyandottes, but if it were me, I would do what has already been suggested and that is to get yourself a couple of great layers, and a couple of great broody breeds. I can't wait until my boyfriend and I have more space so that I can start brooding my own chicks. I would love to brood and sell them. I have ducks too and it's the same...some are great layers and others are great mothers.

They will be happier and cleaner with a small pond. I have 2 Runners and a small kiddie pool for them. Duck maintenance is not much different than chickens except for the fact that they consume far more water :) But I love their personalities. I wrote a comparative article on owning ducks and chickens you should check out if you are interested in owning them.
