A horrible horrible mistake.

My boyfriend is compulsive and not cautious at all.

When setting up our styrofoam cooler incubator we planned on making, he decided that he would finish it himself. I told him the temperature should be at 101 degrees.

Well, were both very very new at this so he didn't wait to see if the temperature will stabilize. He finished up and walked out of the room.

We were only gone for 30-60 seconds but when we checked on the egg...the thermometer was near 130 degrees!!!!
I tried my best to cool it down and we fixed the lamp and I made SURE it stayed at 101 degrees before I put the egg back in.

Is there any hope for this little duck egg? It's only about 3 days old :'(

If it was only a minute it will be fine. It takes a while for the inside of the egg to warm up.

I'd suspect the egg is nonviable. You should set the incubator up for at least 24 hours of stable temps.

Yeah we have a heat lamp clamped on the side of the cooler.

If it was only 1-2 minutes there shouldn't be any harm done.
