If you are going to hang the kill cone face high, be sure you know which direction the poop cannon is pointing when you make your cut.

Been there. 24 hour purging does not always completely work.

Wish I could think of a good way to hang a bird right-side-up, that is, poop-cannon-end-down, so the nasty goo doesn't tend to run back onto the nice clean meat. And so it can't hit me in the face, either.

Most of what I have experienced has been the 24 hr purge rule, but I have found that longer periods do work better. I hang my cone at a 45 degree angle away from me. Sorry you got shot.

Aim the neck away from you when you cut also. Last chicken I slaughtered got me right in the eye when I cut hit neck. So much blood my GF thought I hurt myself. Not to mention all that blood in my eye

That's why I use a broom handle. Used to use a hatchet, but apparently my aim is not good enough....
