A little egg hatch advice

Hey everyone, my brother obtained 8 bc marans. We both have been trying to hatch his eggs. I have quite a bit of experience with high hatch rates, but I'm stumped. The chicks develop a bit or completely develop, but don't hatch. The membrane is rather thick, and I wonder if that could be the problem? Not drowning or shrink wrapping just no hatch. Any advice??

Is there any possibility that the breeder stock are from an inbred strain?

I wouldn't think so. I know the guy he got them from. I have even had a few of his chickens, but not marans. I had no problems with his rir. Could it be they are still young you think?

Some people have problems hatching pullet eggs. Perhaps that could be the answer. I once hatched eggs for a friend who had a highly inbred WC Black Polish flock. He started with one pair and had gone 20+ generations without adding new blood. Very few chicks hatched naturally, but those that survived were show winners.
