A Little Egg Rainbow!

I'm so excited about this egg rainbow!

We got our first chicks in the beginning of March. When I was picking out breeds for our little flock this is what I envisioned; lots of colored eggs! I think I'd like to add a Maran (I think they can lay a dark brown egg?) and maybe a Leghorn or something similar (for a white egg). Any other suggestions for colored eggs?

do a search for "pink egg project"- someone had a chicken that laid really pink eggs- I think hers was a Brahma, but not sure

I've also heard that Welsummers lay a nice dark egg. Does anyone have experience with Welsummers or Marans? Which would you recommend? Why?

No experience with Welsummers, but I've had Marans, both Cuckoo and Black Copper. The Black Coppers laid the darkest brown. If you want a real dark chocolate, I'd recommend getting them from a breeder rather than a hatchery. Beautiful eggs!

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't realize the Black Coppers were the way to go. Just thinking about those dark eggs in a basket makes me smile!
