Hello,i've been feeding my flock flockraisor from tsc for a pretty long time.I always liked the fact that all ages can eat it (i always seemed to have young ones around). But sometimes when i get the feed home the crumbles are more dust then anything.I just bought 2 bags (@ 18 bucks a piece) and for some reason my dh thought it was ok to poor it into their feed holder,so now im out the money and have to hit tsc tomorrow for more feed.Has anyone else dealt with this?I tried to get them to eat the pellets a while ago but the brats wouldnt go for it.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Some folks have a process whereby they dampen the dust and make it into something akin to crumbles so that the chickens will eat it. Look around the bulletin board and see what they have done. It might be what you need.

If the bag had a lot of dust in it, taking it back for an exchange seems to be a good idea. After all, they are selling crumbles, not dust.

Thanks Chris.I would have definitely taken it back if the dh hadnt already put it in their feed holder and through away the bags.

Pellets are the way to go for less waste. I know they won't like them but you can get them to eat them it just takes a while to change them over. If your flock is like mine they go crazy for treats no matter what it is.If they are just start slipping in some pellets with their treats and slowly change them to all pellets. after they have been eating them as treats for awhile switch em over. You may get a few bowls of grumble soup at first but trust me they won't starve themselves to death just to show you. pellits will save a lot of mess and waste I have 9 weeks old leghorns in the grow out pen and they think pellits are a real treat so don't worry about them being to big for small birds.I have a laying flock and also a flock of bantam cochins and they all eat nutrena all flock pellets at 18 % protein and are doing just fine.

I have had that happen as well. I always pinch at the corners now and that usually gives me a good idea of how big the particles are. I also do the same thing with horse feed. If it is stuck into one big brick it means too much molasses.

Thanks for the replies.I know one thing, when i go to tsc tomorrow i will be speaking to the manager.Even the cracked corn was mostly dust. That was a first for me.
