They don't dig like gopher tortoises, but they make a scrape, like a furrow, to sleep in. It's usually deeper at the face end so the head is just below the surface of the ground. Alternatively they dig in against a hard surface. They probably feel more secure when their faces are protected while they sleep. The challenge with these guys is that when they can see through a fence, they do their utmost to get to the other side. My biggest girl is 24kg and that's a lot of pushing power!
