I put 3 Marans eggs in the hatcher on Saturday the 12th, at day 18. By Tuesday, day 21, I had 2 chicks. I scratched and listened to the other egg, but didnt hear anything. I took out those 2 chicks, but kept that one egg in there until Wednesday, day 22. There was no action, so I unplugged the hatcher.
Well, today I figured Id better clean out that hatcher, because I have another batch coming up on 18 days. I opened the top, and that egg had pipped! I held it up to my ear and scratched on it, and it peeped!!! Well, throwing all caution to the wind, I took the egg to the sink, opened up the egg, got a poor little cold chick, put it in the incubator, plugged it in, and it appears he will be just fine. This after having no heat for 2 days. I dont know when it pipped either. I just forgot about it after unplugging the incubator.
Now thats a first for me!!!!
