Chipotle, my California White, is the last of the adult hens to molt this year.
Cordon molted after being broody, Dumpling entered the worst molt contest in October, and both Teriyaki and Popcorn have been in the process of doing gentle, prolonged molts for the past month or so.
IIRC, a late, hard, molt is the most desirable, right?
Chipotle laid eggs steadily for a full year, reducing to "only" 5 per week in late October through early December then stopped completely a week ago. Now the feathers are falling rapidly.
Wednesday night I moved her out of a nestbox onto a roost and a few feathers came off in my hands. This morning it looks like it had snowed under her perch.
She's not naked yet and still has her BADLY worn tail. I thought it would be interesting to document the feather loss process throughout the next couple days.
