An update: the hen in question only laid a few eggs that first year and never laid again. They are not sterile, they just don't lay eggs. Well except for the one I sold to a gal here on BYC, she bought it because she didn't want chicks then that hen laid eggs for her. She got the Golden Goose and didn't want it.
It's pretty cool to have a bird with a unique mutation but it will be really special when you can prove that it will breed true. Any new mutation has to be able to replicate itself for three generations before it is recognized as a new color mutation. For now, a single unique bird is just a curiosity. Congratulations on producing something never seen before. Now comes the hard work of making it reproduce itself every time.Hello. I live in France and I have a young Dark Black Peacock at home. What do you think of the color?
Thank you for your message. I didn't create anything at all. The color arrived by chance at another breeder's. Being passionate, having really had a big crush on this color, I have three birds at home that I breed and there are indeed young of this same color from this couple. Next year I will breed young from different parents so that would already mean that the second offspring reproduces. It's pretty cool to have a bird with a unique mutation but it will be really special when you can prove that it will breed true.
