A new day, a new issue...string wrapped around ankle!

Just a note. I have always been able to do any job alone as long as I have covered the birds head and had all of my tools needed on my person.
The only time I have ever had to cover a bird's head was when I was doing "surgery" on a wing ripped off by a raccoon. I usually just tuck the head under my arm & work from the back half of the bird. It the head is sticking out the back of my body, & I'm working in front they can't see what I'm doing & are much less concerned abut it. My main thing is always pinning the wings & watching the claws. Wings can even be clipped this way by 1 person. This also allows legs to be extended behind the bird's body to be examined or worked on.

Main thing with geese is making sure you have those wings pinned close to their body, they can pack a wallop if they hit you with one.

On the string it looks like they had the gosling hobbled with that thin string. That was not a good idea because you can cut the leg if left on too long. You should use wider butcher string, the horse wrap for legs that sticks it self or even yarn.

Well, thanks to all! It's done and went off without a hitch. Gertie was actually very sweet about being picked up. She didn't wiggle, fight, flap or even move her legs about! She's free..literally!

Afterwards, we released them from their pen so they could have a walk about. It's the first time they've been free since they got here a week ago! I've left their pool in their pen with the pen door open and I'm hoping they will be comfortable going in there because I'm going to lock them up at night.

I don't understand why someone would tie a string around a goose's leg. Why would this be necessary?

It really looked to me like it got snagged on a piece of string that was laying around & got tangled around her leg. I've seen it happen with my birds on occasion. Glad she was so cooperative & let you get it off.
