Our oldest son is just finishing up 1st grade. A few weeks ago he came home begging to adopt baby chicks from his school. The class did a unit on the development and hatching of the egg and some basic chicken facts. Of course, like any level headed mama I said no. (Isn't the three dogs, the tank full of fish, and the little brother enough!!) I went to sub for his class on Monday, and guess what, it turnned into hatch day!! One of the coolest things to watch. Needless to say on Thursday we went to the school and picked up our newest family members. So glad I changed my mind. They haven't even been here 24 hours and are already so much fun. The girls (there are three of them) are escape artist and have been moved from the plastic container to the converted dog kennel (found the example on here). We have no idea what kind of chickens they are, but we can't wait to watch them grow. Really looking forward to the new adventure for our family. Next order of business, building the coop. Wish us luck as we know NOTHING about raising chickens let alone coop building. I see lots of laughs and good times for our boys in the future.

We can also help you build a coop here:

I have finally been able to catch the girls in a picture or two. lol I have tried to upload them to the link you sent me, but it doesn't seem to want to insert my pictures. I am going to give it another shot when we get home this evening. Thanks for the help!
