Hello. My name is Jen. Currently reside in the backwoods of Tennessee. Kinda new to the country life but I am truly loving it. We started our farm with 26 chickens and so far 1 rabbit. We got the rabbit first it was suppose to be a boy but a week later we found 6 chewed babies in the pen. We got our chickens at the end of March. Unfortunately we have lost a few of the chicks. We have 5 speckled sussex, 5 rhode island red, 5 buff orpington, 5 plymouth rock, 5 black australorp chicks and 1 rhode island red rooster. The chicks are all suppose to be pullets but I suspect that one of the reds will be a rooster since it has a larger comb than the rest of them. I still have my chicks in a cage that resembles the rabbit cage. I think I may need a bigger cage for the because we have to clean it out at least three times a day ~ Once in the morning before I leave for work, when the kids get at home at 4pm, and then before I go to bed. Any suggestions would be a great help. Right now they are in a four foot by two foot pen with pine shavings as the bottom and they have two one gallon waters and two quart feeders. I feed them a mix of crumbles and starter. The rooster of course eats scratch but he seems to like their food as well because I have been putting their shavings I take out of their cage and put them in his pin to get him accustomed to their scents. I don't know if this is normal or needed but thought it a good idea so that the food that falls into the shavings does not go to waste lol. Look forward to learning from you and getting to know you.
