I bought them straight run when they were 3 weeks old locally as pets. I read and saw a lot of silkie posts and pics to guess what gender they might be. They always stay together move together. Only time I saw them turn back on each other was when I gave them small grasshoppers and tiny geckos. Oh man, I never knew they could move that fast. So when I could not catch anymore of those, I got 10 lbs of mealworms as treat and I still have about 9.9 lbs of it left... :( Anyway back to their gender, here are a couple of photos. One seems to have a bit more feather than the other one but wasn't really sure. Any thoughts?

When you pick them up are they both about the same body size or is one smaller than the other? If one is bigger than cockerel for sure. How about their combs? Any purple/red color or still pretty dark? Take a close look st their top knots. If the top knot looks longer than tall almost like they have a small mullet that’s gonna be a rooster. I am thinking that the one on the left in your first pic is a rooster and am undecided on the other. If they are the same body size when held and the top knot is the same looking than I would say both are roosters. I have had 3 silkies so far and ended up with 2 roosters and 1 hen. My roosters top knots looked like that one you have on the left top pic. My hen’s top knot was defiantly more poofy, she had very little comb growth and smaller body size at 13 weeks.

Their size seems similar though hard to tell accurately since both have poofy body. Both have dark comb. One on the right in 1st pic has poofier top knot. I am 90% sure one on the left in 1st pic is a roo. It is the 2nd one I am not sure of. Behavior patterns seems to be that of a hen. It squats more, slower, less aggresive, etc. At the same time, it could be a beta male with poofy head as well. What age will I be able to tell what it is with good certainty?

Well my silkie hen just started laying eggs at 26 weeks and I would say my little rooster started crowing about 18-20weeks old. If you see them raise their neck feathers and fight it’s a pretty good indication that they are both roosters. But to be 100% confident in your answer to gender you might have to wait for crowing or laid eggs.
