So I have a little Polish pullet who definitely prefers hanging with us humans rather than her own flock. She follows me everywhere...likes to sit and watch whatever I'm doing in the garden, preferably on my arm or in my lap, and makes a general cute feathered nuisance of herself. Will she ever join the flock and/or get interested in doing chicken-like things or am I destined to have a poofy-headed little shadow whenever I'm outside?

I don't know if it matters, but she and two others were injured when my big ladies went on a rampage and pecked the holy crapola out of them. They were all a bloody mess, but some Blu-Kote and TLC in the kitchen fixed them right up. I guess she liked her special care enough to bond with me? I love her and think she's cute as a button, but having to watch my step all the time or having to hunt her down at bedtime because she's not with everyone else will get old. :)

How old is she?
The chicks I've raised myself usually stick around quite a long time, but they start mingling with the rest of the flock eventually. Usually when they are about 16 weeks or older.

The new batch is about 10-11 weeks old now. The rest of the babies are happily learning to forage, figuring out the bedtime ritual, etc. She'd rather chill on the porch and watch me plant herbs. LOL

She's still very young, so she'll probably outgrow her crush on you. When she's older she'll start thinking about laying eggs and being a chicken. I had a roo who behaved like this. He'd rather sit on my lap than run around outside. Then he hit his teens. And he was a typical teenager, moody, aggressive, he started biting me really bad... He got over it quick enough, but the love affair was over!

Thanks for the advice...she went home to bed with everyone else tonight, unlike last night when I found her roosting on a fence wire!
