Over the last week or so a single feral pigeon has been coming into yard to consume scratch grains spilled from a 50 lb bag in the front yard. When not feeding it spends a lot of time on the roof watching the grain. Otherwise it flies off to join group of about 50 that concentrates activity around yard of person that raises Chukars. This bird and others I think roost under bridge over Missouri River at Jefferson City, MO. Several hundred roost there.
When pigeon flies about the juvenile chickens are scared of it and run to cover. The game hens on the other hand chase it off at every opportunity, usually by just walking towards it, but they run at when they get within about 20 feet. One hen in particular invests in the effort.
Some more scratch grains will be dispensed along the roadway to see if more come in. A bunch of sparrows are also coming in. This may increase odds a Coopers or Sharp-shinned Hawk will come in for a video. We already have an exceptional number of migratory songbirds because of all the food bearing plants.
