I bought 20 assorted chicks two and a half weeks ago. In the first week I lost two of three Silver laced wyondottes , now the third is acting funny. She seems to be unstable when standing but can run around just fine.I have even noticed that she lays down when eating out of the trough. I have looked at her and can not find any problems with her physically. Any sugestions.

When chicks die in the first few week it usually has to do with some internal or genetic problem, or improper handling during or right after the hatch, since they are all the same breed they are all probably related, and the problem is with those particular chicks.

As long as they are eating good quality chick starter, have fresh water changed daily, and the brooder is kept clean, roomy and not too hot or cold, there's not much you can do, watch for pasty butt, everything else is pretty much out of your control. Nature weeds out the weak and deformed usually. Sorry.

Sorry to interrupt,, but what is "pasty butt" ?

It's when chicks poop and it gets stuck to its butt, then the poop starts piling up until your little chick can't poop, you have to wet his little butt down and slowly remove the crust, it can kill them and it's usually because the brooder is too warm or your chick is unwell.
