Hi ! this is a short question but i was wondering if cayuga hens have the same green color as the drakes do! it is beautiful and i am ordering my ducklings this weekend and i would love to have a cayuga with a nice emerald color! i am getting 4 other ducks and i am considering also getting a male ancona and a female ancona . should i just get one drake and 5 hens or would it be okay to have 2 drakes sharing 4 hens? I am not going to have them have ducklings i am going to collect the eggs they are just going to be pets! but i have heard that drakes will fight over the hens and you need to have a good amont of hens to have more than one drake.
do you think four hens is enough for 2 drakes? thank you!
! Pleased you joined us! I've had a drake Cayuga before but not a hen so I can't advise on hen colors. With regard to the drake/hen ratio, I had a straight run order that had 3 drakes and 2 hens. It seemed like a real breeding fest but it didn't seem to have an ill affect on the hens. You might post over in the duck thread below for more precise advice. Good luck to you and enjoy your flock!
sorry I don't know anything about ducks except they are cute as the dickens.. We used to have a hen and two drake mallards visit our front lawn and the female would jump on the window sill and look in at us.
