I’ve had my two silkies for about 8 months now, the only 2/6 I kept from a straight run due to the roosters crowing by 4 months in.
Lint is on the left, licorice is on the right. The one thing we have come to realized is, Lint is a very dominant hen, chases and attacks anything that isn’t licorice. Licorice on the other hand, will come straight up to people to be pet, and we honestly do believe he’s a rooster. He’s never been loud like the ones we gave away, but he was always quiet to start with, honestly he sounds like the grudge, it’s more of a croak than a cluck when he talks to you.
He does have a comb that’s completely different than Lint’s, and he also has more red around his eyes.
The only thing is, this rooster has never crowed!! The only time I’ve ever heard this chicken make noise was either when he’s being pet, making a cooing noise, or when you don’t give him the right treat and he croaks softly at you. Is this just normal behavior sometimes? Or is he really just a hen in the end?
He was always about half the size of the other s
you can barely see him to the right of the white silkie in this one, he blends in with Lint
Qtip was the head rooster when all the silkies were still with us. Licorice had the same streamy head feathers, but if the two were next to each other, licorice would barely be able to see over his back.
Like I said, the other 4 roosters were crowing like crazy, on the dot starting from 5am everyday. Licorice never did but it’s weird to think we might have a rooster that doesn’t crow
