These are my two Buff Orpington chicks at 4 weeks old (I have five others in different colors. I’m starting to think I’ve got a rooster. Everyone says it’s too early to tell. But Jane (second pic) is feistier than the others, has this larger comb, shorter tail, and I swear I heard her try to crow yesterday. What do you all think—is Jane a John?
Thanks,
Moe JR
Four weeks old is not too early to sex a chick. If you have a trained eye then you can sex your chicks at even two weeks old. People usually say six weeks old is the best for sexing only because by then 99% of the time their gender is obvious.
