A twist on the old "chicken/quail can they live together" question

I know they can't live together but what about in different coops on same property roughly 40 ft apart. I'm going to guess some of illnesses are airborne and some are contact so quail coop would be up wind of chickens. Maybe it would help or maybe not. I may just say screw it and raise quail. Right now I could house 80 quail after chickens are gone. I hate having too much time on my hands

Well that certainly clears up alot. From what I've read it seemed they couldn't be close together. This is good news since my wife is now very attached to our chickens and I'm toying with this new idea.
 
They should not be side by side, or housed togather. A few feet is sufficient so long as you use a good biological isolation they will be fine. The contagens you are rightly worried about are direct contact transmitted. Meaning if they come in direct contact with chickens or items chicken have used that have not been properly cleaned( a 30 min soak in bleach water is all it takes), as well as droppings. I wouldnt allow my chickens to be kissin on my quail either
