Abandoned chickens - They are here - pic page 2

Want some hens LOL?! The law was changed in the city of Cleveland proper, not out our way. Apparently chickens in the city were a no-no but people were keeping them anyway. They petitioned and fought city hall to get them approved and they sure did. I don't know any other details so I don't know what the limit is.

Well, the chickens are here! Of the 4, there are two red stars, one RIR, and this little banty and I don't know what she is. She has feathered feet. And OH her poor feet - her nails were so long, the ones she has left anyway. I clipped them and will hope for the best. Not sure if her feet are caked with old poo or if it's bumblefoot - will have to look that up. I didn't want to leave her in the hutch by herself so I brought her inside and she's in the basement in her own tub. She must have been starving because she started eating and drinking right away. I put antibiotics in all of their water. Her poo is green and runny which I know can't be a good thing.

Of the others, the RIR was debeaked but seems ok. One of the red stars has a watery eye, and the other seems ok. They have a sheltered area in the hutch and are huddling together. I put food and water out for them but it's already dark so they aren't doing much.

Here's a pic of the banty - what is she? She is very calm and friendly.

Thanks - yes, she's a banty. The other 3 are full-sized but pretty young yet. She's more colorful than the pic shows; both the camera and the operator take bad pics. She's not a BR banty for sure and I'm not at all familiar with the feather footed breeds. Poor little thing.

Maybe it's time to make a call to the local paper......

Show that changing the law is having this as a result.

I would have thought the owners of these chickens would have been grandfathered in somehow.

That girl is SOOOOOO pretty.

Thank you! I don't want to call the paper and draw attention to myself unless it becomes a much bigger issue. Unfortunately I can't take every stray but I'll do what I can.

Good news - assuming the little banty is a brahma, DD named her Lola. She's doing just fine this morning and her poops are normal. The other hens seem ok too and were eating and drinking this morning.
