So my duck just hatched four beautiful duckies but there were five eggs. After two days after the other four hatched and her leaving the nest with the babies, I decided to remove it since she obviously wasn’t interested. Well I got curious and decided to candle it to see if there was still a chance it could make it. I’ve never candled before but I’ve seen what it’s supposed to look like. What the heck is this? Should I just throw it away? Or?

Bill abd four Friends.JPG The duck Bill has a bevy of Saxony ducks who have been team brooding on a clutch of 10 eggs.
Several have candled like the one you show and 2 were found abandoned (outside the nest) . Each of those two were devoid of the hard outer shell and only the leathery inner membrane remained. I got brave and did a postmortem on the one shown here. failedEgg (2).jpg

In the photo below, I have circled the discoloration on the membrane and on the embryo . Too sad for words.

If you think it is dead, and you feel brave enough, give it a sniff to be sure it is not rotten. Then peal it and post a photo of what you find.

Are you seeing any movement at all in that egg? Look at it from all directions and see if you see any sign of life like a pulsating movement.

You could make an incubator using some kind of a box or cooler by putting a light in it. Try not to catch it on fire though. LED lights don't put out any heat so try to find an incandescent bulb. Put a pan of water in it too for humidity. The larger the surface area of the water the higher the humidity will be. In other words, don't put a cup of water in it, use a flat shallow pan instead.
