I'm looking for a breed of rooster that is nice their whole life and takes good care of their hens. Andulsian's sound pretty interesting to me and I was wondering if anyone on here had ever had any experience with Andulsians roosters???

I've had a few hatchery andalusian roos. Very flightly, quick to try to escape boys as most mediterranean breeds are. They were pretty, though. I do not know whether or not birds of a higher quality would be more tame--I've noticed that when I purchase birds from hatcheries they tend to spook very easily, no matter what the breed.

So far I've had personal experience with 2 different Blue Andalusian roos and they were both very very aggressive. I wouldn't try keeping one again.

You know there are tendencies among breeds for certain temperments, and then there are always individual variations. If you're not particular about breed, but just want a roo who is non-aggressive towards humans & gentle with his hens, check with local chicken keepers for folks giving away nice roosters for free. You'll be more likely to know the roo's temperment once he's full-grown, and if he's a gentleman he'll behave just as well for you. Raising a roo from a chick is no guarantee he'll be easy to handle once he's grown. Sometimes they'll let you handle them a lot while they're chicks, then when they mature their temperment changes for the worse.

Plus you'll feel good knowing you kept a deserving roo off the table.
