Thanks to everyone!
There was one man on the board that was opposed to it. Said that althought he was certain "we" would take excellent care of chickens, everyone else would not and they would be opening a big can of worms in changing the ordinance.
I pointed out that with that kind of logic, no one should have ANYTHING... not houses or cars or kids or dogs etc etc etc.
I also pointed out that there was no ordinance against the keeping of any animal other than 'livestock'... hence, I could get a pack of wolf-dog hybrids, an ostrich or an alligator....
What really helped, in my opinion, was providing the board with as much information as I could that showed how other municipalities wrote their ordinances to take into consideration the wishes/rights of neighbors.
I think that swayed them because the village board president said basically that if the neighbors didn't care, why should they? He just didn't like getting calls all the time about neighbor 'fights' so if I could get my neighbors to sign a petition, it would be helpful. I did so and that was a big help, too.
I'd suggest that anyone wanting to do this gather as much info as possible and DO get a petition signed by your neighbors as well.
I'm very excited and looking forward getting out coop done and getting my 'girls' home
I think I will name them after my village board members lol
