Somewhere over the rainbow
Hi all! I'm not sure if these is quite are diseases, but I've noticed two things about my RIR hen, Peanut...

1. She makes alot of watery poops... is this abnormal? She acts fine...

2. On her butt, there is a bald spot (no pinfeathers, completely bare) that takes up about 1/2 of her butt... This is kind of weird, I never noticed it before...

The second one is my main concern...

Thanks!

If the weather is hot where you are, the watery poop may just be due to drinking more, which they do in hot weather. The bare bottom could be from several things. If you haven't checked closedly for lice/mites, I would do so (link below,) or just treat for them. Watch closely for others feather picking, especially if they are in a confined run. A round of probiotics will do no harm and might help, as might adding a Tbsp of organic apple cider vinegar to a gallon of water. Be sure there is no open wound as this is the time of year for flies to lay eggs in even a small wound, leading to amggots, if you are in the US, at least. You could also try some anti-yeast cream. These are just a couple of ideas, based on guesses. The feathers may not grow back til the next molt.

I took a closer look, and there weren't any mites... but it seemed like there were these "hair like" growths (it looked like thin strands of human hair!!) growing where there weren't any feathers!! What is that!??!
