I know not to count your chickens before they are hatched, but am wondering about if broodiness can be an inherited trait in crossbred chickens.
Have a Lavender Orpington hen sitting on eggs now, none of which are hers. The roosters are Lavender Orpingtons and the hens that the eggs are from are mostly either Black Australorps or New Hampshire Reds. These are all hatchery chickens and so I am thinking that the BA and NH birds will likely not have broodiness. I wonder if the crossbred birds of a cross like BA and NH and Lavender Orpington roosters would pick up the broodiness of the Orpinton?

So you're crossing a broody breed (Lavender Orpington rooster) with not-broody hens, and wondering how likely the chicks are to go broody?

I think there's a good chance that some might go broody, although of course nothing is completely certain with chickens.

You'll probably know for sure sometime next year ;)
