Hey everyone. I’m new to the whole idea of raising chickens. I don’t currently have any but plan on getting one within the next month. My daughter is autistic and LOVE animals. My husband and I are trying to find new ways to draw her out of her shell and teach her (and our son) responsibility. We currently have two cats and two hermit crabs. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!
Keeping chickens can be quite rewarding. I think you will thoroughly enjoy having a flock of them. Mine are huge on lap sitting, they love the attention!
Welcome to BYC. Set goals, study the forums, question, plan and you will be ready to venture into keeping chickens. Chickens are flock animals and do best with company. I recommend a minimum of 3 that way if something happens to one, 2 remain as company for one another. Chickens and kids are a natural mix. Good luck.
I do hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.
BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.
If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
