I've heard you can go a little smaller on area per bird. We'll stick with the eight we have for now.

PS: My wife thinks I have a little obsession problem.
 
In regards to using one fan for intake and one fan for exhaust. You may consider having a passive intake and using both fans to Exhaust. This technically gives you double the air flow moving through the coop. Fresh Air WILL find its way in via air pressure if air is being exhausted, even without a dedicated passive air vent. I am planning on using just such a set up on my coop and using a home furnace air filter to cover a small passive air vent. This way no added dust from outside gets passed into the coop.

Think of it like your bathroom fart fan. It exhausts all the stink and humidty but there isnt a fan blowing air into the room, because its not necessary.
