What I've been fearing since the first day we used the chicken tractor came true today. One of my little ones (8 weeks old) got his foot caught under the outside wall of the chicken tractor as it was being moved. It doesn't look horrible, but it does look painful. 2 toes are bloodied and one looks like it's bruising. I gave him some electrolyte water and he was eating food. Should I do anything else for him or should I just leave him be for now?

One of my hens got her foot stuck as a pullet. It swelled up 3x's it's size and looked pretty bad. I brought her in, washed her up, put antibiotic ointment on the open skin, and gave her a tiny bit of aspirin. I only scraped a little of a 5mg pill and dissolved it in water. She was up and running about 1/2 hour later. The next day, the foot was almost back to normal. I gave her aspirin once in the morning and at night.

You can not give any other pain reliever then aspirin. I use it myself, so I have it on hand.

I now have vetwrap for emergencies to wrap their feet. It's cheap and amazing stuff!

keep it clean to prevent infection and yes use cotton wool then cover with vetwrap this is very good stuff :)

Thanks! I do have aspirin so I will try that for him before it gets dark. He wasn't swollen the last time I looked. He was even walking on the bad foot, so maybe it's not too bad. Poor guy. I feel so guilty about it!

Okay... I gave him a smidge of aspirin in some yogurt, brought him in and washed him up, and put a little antibiotic ointment on his toe. Only the middle one looks bad. I tried putting a bandage on it but it wouldn't stay on so I gave up.

Vetwrap is pretty amazing. It holds extremely well!

I ordered mine on eBay. I bought 4 rolls altogether in different sizes. I like the thicker/wider rolls personally. They are easy to cut and you press the material together and it sticks like glue.
