Actigen - Gut Health Management

So I go to the mailbox and out of the blue my vet sent me a letter with four pages she copied about a product that is made by Alltech called Actigen. H er note said, 'May help with Coccidia issues'.

I can not find the article she sent me on line, and I tried to take a photo of the paper, but it is all washed out and can not be read.

There is a lot of interesting information in the article that is not on the site, but I will try to give you an idea what it is supposed to do.

To optimize gut health;
Seeding the gut with a favourable organism.
Maintaining an appropriate PH and electrolyte balance with acidification.
Reducing the capacity of unfavourable organisms to compete.
Reducing the anit-nutritional properties of dietary ingredients to enhance nutrient digestion.
Maintaining the integrity and structure of the GI tract.
Enhance and modulate the immune status.

To simplify, gut health can be managed through the 'Seed, Feed, Weed' program created by Dr. Steven Collett.

Anyone hear about this product or know where it can be bought?

I should know Monday if my lead pans out for a location to order Actigen as an additive to my feed.

I just skimmed the article, I want to read it completely when I have more time. What I've gotten so far was his opinion that cocci is present all over. I've had poultry ever since I moved to this location, nearly 20 years ago and have never had cocci problems. I just assumed I didn't have the causative agent. If what is stated in the article is true ( and I have no reason to assume it isn't), then something in my feed, which I have changed numerous times, or water (hard well water) is stopping cocci from being a problem. The only thing I haven't changed is my water and the fact that after the first day in the brooder I add ACV to it. The first day all my chicks,keets,peas,ect. get a water soluble vit/electrolyte I get at TSC. I have just under 100 birds (chickens,guineas,peas, turkeys & chukar,) and generally brood less than 100 each year.

@Trefoil and @mreyes , While I was searching for this product my vet had ordered it already! She ordered a 25KL (55lb) bag to split between a few of her customers. It is sold under the name Bio-Mos http://www.bio-mos.com/bio-mos/about.htm
I bought a ten pound bag and IF I did the math right 42 gm per 100 pounds of feed is all that is needed. I feed about 100 pounds of crumbles every two weeks so that will last me for about, ever? But then again, this time of year I am mixing crumbles, cat food, alfalfa pellets, and groats, and grain so I am having to recalculate the amount to add to my mash.

Which brings me to a few questions for mreyes. Will adding this to my wet mash affect the Bio-Mos? I assume it will not as it is primarily a yeast, my routine is to mix all ingredients with water and let stand until the next feeding time, next morning or evening. Another question is will Apple Cider Vinegar hurt or help the Bio-Mos? Have any of the studies or peer reviews looked into effects on feather color? I know @Resolution would be interested in that as would many more of us.

My entire flock has never looked healthier to begin with, so it will take some time to notice any effect that Bio-Mos may have. For now I am just trying to track food consumption, which some days it seems to be less, but last night with the cold front moving in they ate like pigs.
